Get Ready 'Cause Here She Comes
Life On Neptune's Danielle DuBois dishes on her unexpected rise to fame. by Christine Smith
Danielle DuBois is your typical teenage girl... At least, she was until she won the one contest that changed her entire life. DuBois, now 17, began her career as the up-and-coming starlet that we all now know and love when she scored herself a walk-on role on NBC's newest hit series Life On Neptune. "It was exciting," the teenage actress recounted, "I was a huge fan of the show and an even bigger Oliver Shaw fan. I couldn't believe I actually won!" Indeed she did win, and she got the jackpot.
"It was just a small role, you know, like every other walk-on role. I was supposed to be a waitress or something, but I got around to meeting everyone on set, and they must have really liked me, because I got a whole new script shoved in my hands." That was the start of TV's newest bitch Sophie Tyler, high school friend of Jackson Walker (Oliver Shaw) and the girl who single-handedly brought down the show's star couple. Although the character seemed to ride off into the sunset at the end of the episode, much to any Julie/Jackson fan's disappointment, it wasn't the end of Danielle's stint on the show.
"It was hard to believe the call when I got it. It was only a day or so after my episode had aired, and they were asking me to come back for a couple more episodes. Of course, I said yes, who wouldn't!" She went on to say that this two to three episode storyline expanded itself into the rest of the season and we all know where it went from there - top-billing in season two. But, being promoted to a series regular isn't all this starlet has going for her. She's gotten the attention of directors and casting agents on an international scale.
Recently, she could be seen in Paris, France, on the set of Antoine Girard's new film Anéantissement de la Chance. The film, shot entirely in French, might have required any other American actress to schedule some voice lessons and foreign language courses, but DuBois wasn't new to le français. "My dad is from France, and he even still owns a house here, so I basically grew up between Paris and Topeka. I can pass myself off as a native French speaker pretty easily."
In the fall, Danielle will be returning to her home in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she will return to the set of Life On Neptune for the second season. The 17-year-old, who graduated one year early, will have more time to devote to filming. With this extra time, she is even set to guest star on several other current television programs as well as another movie which she will be filming simultaneously with Life On Neptune. So, fans, don't fear, the character that you love to hate will be gracing your screens once again and it doesn't seem like she or this actress will be going anywhere anytime soon.
